A MESSAGE FROM VERLEN FOX - PRESIDENT 2007 - 2008
As President of the Plantation Junior Woman’s Club for the 2007-2008 Year, I am extremely honored and feel very privileged to welcome you to our PJWC Website. To give you a little history on the Club, Plantation Junior Woman’s Club (PJWC) or "Juniors" as we are known by, was started in 1960 as a charitable community service organization in the City of Plantation, Florida. Plantation is a beautiful city full of wonderful parks, tree-lined streets and families who enjoy the amenities year round our City provides. Our organization is comprised of dedicated, active women who work tirelessly to give back to a community that has given us so much. We have supported our community for the past 47 years in numerous ways by fundraisers throughout the year. We have two major fundraisers during the year – our Art in the Park, and our Dinner Dance/Casino Night that benefits Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida PJWC will organize our annual Art in the Park on October 27-28, 2007 which will be held at Liberty Tree Park in Plantation. We will have over 130 participating artists along with good food and entertainment. Our 2006 Art in the Park proceeds were donated to the City Parks and Recreation Department, the Plantation Police Department, City athletic teams, landscaping projects throughout the City, several schools in Plantation, and other charitable organizations in the community. It is a wonderful two day event that has become a tradition in Plantation. We need sponsors and underwriters for our Art in the Park, so please contact us if you are able to help us. We hope that you will be able to join us at our 41st Annual Art in the Park. PJWC is also very proud to have created in 1982 what is now known as the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. The Make-a-Wish Foundation became a separate organization in 1986, but PJWC has organized a Dinner Dance/Casino Night that has benefited Make-a-Wish every year since 1983 and our organization has donated a total of approximately $700,000.00 to Make-a-Wish in those 25 years. Underwriters and donations are needed for our Live Auction, Silent Auction, and Raffle Baskets for our Dinner Dance/Casino Night which will be held in April, 2008. Please contact us if you are able to underwrite or donate items. We are very excited about our 2007-2008 year which will be rewarding and fulfilling as we help the community, continue our partnership with the City of Plantation, donate to Make-a-Wish, and help the needy with monthly support services’ projects, along with toy drives during the holidays, and food baskets during Thanksgiving. If you are interested in joining or learning more about PJWC, please attend our next General Meeting which is the third Wednesday of each month from September to April at Deicke Auditorium in Plantation. Our yearly Installation Dinner is in May, and our first meeting of the new year is the third Wednesday of June. We would love to make you a part of our wonderful Club! Verlen Fox 2007-2008 President
